As part of an extensive refurbishment program, this project transformed Cornwall House from an office block into modern residential dwellings. The primary challenge arose from the existing structure, which couldn’t support the weight of traditional blockwork, requiring a more innovative approach. To address this, we combined a lightweight steel sub-frame structure with our Cristocomb™ lightweight stone panels, thus providing an effective solution that maintained the building’s integrity and stability.
Our lightweight facade system played a crucial role in reducing the overall load on the building, ensuring the safe integration of the new facade without compromising the original framework.
We selected a bush-hammered finish for the Jura Beige stone panels to enhance the building’s exterior and maintain harmony with the existing concrete facade. This finish provided a fresh, modern appearance while offering the durability required for a residential setting. Additionally, the textured surface created by the bush-hammering process added visual interest and helped the new facade blend seamlessly with the existing architectural elements.
Throughout the project, we paid careful attention to ensuring that the new facade design was both functional and visually appealing. Consequently, our lightweight solution successfully transformed the office block into residential dwellings, preserving the building’s structural integrity and adhering to design specifications.
